Dean of Students

Biography

Maurice Butler has been serving as a behavioral intervention specialist in the capacity of a social worker and/or the Dean of Students within the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) for over 15 years. He pursued his Business Marketing degree from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA. While in Louisiana, Mr. Butler worked as a volunteer at Banks Elementary School in the East Baton Rouge Parish, served as a Tutor Counselor at the Southern University Upward Bound Program, and was employed in the Adult Literacy Programs industry. He then received his MSW from Howard University and has remained in DC ever since, working with youth within the public school and alternative school system primarily on the middle school and high school levels. His experience working with youth who may exhibit challenges expressing their emotions and behaviors on a proactive and positive manner has resulted in him initiating a number of programs that assess the students’ current level of thinking and functioning as it relates to their overall existence in today’s society. Since 2011, he works at McKinley Technology High School, serving as the Dean of Students.
