Arts Integration and Cultural Programs Manager

Biography

Born to immigrant parents, Tara Villanueva was fortunate enough to be surrounded by the arts as a child unlike many of her peers. After making her debut on Broadway and television shows as a teenager in New York City, Tara pursued an undergraduate degree in classical piano performance and fine arts. She accepted a job in Washington, DC, as a music and arts consultant for a nationally recognized adult education charter school catering to low-income immigrants from around the world. What seemed to be a stepping-stone evolved into a career change as she began to actively advocate for the importance of the arts on a daily basis. Tara single-handedly built the arts programs and its partnerships at the Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School campuses and has now returned to the University of Maryland for her Master’s in Education in hopes of changing adult education curriculum. She has been accepted into programs at the Trinity College Dublin and the Harvard University School of Education to increase her knowledge and passion for arts integration. She focuses on the importance of arts in education, especially using community partnerships and the holistic approach the arts provide to English-language learners.
