Shakenya Humphries, of the Washington School for Girls, is a creative educator and activist. She enjoys incorporating politics, nature, and hot topics circulating media into her lessons. Shakenya found her inner educator in her senior year of college while working at the Corrections for Organized ReEntry Program as a tutor for individuals on probation and parole. After this time she joined AmeriCorps’s Notre Dame Mission Volunteers and served as a Reading teacher and classroom aid. After her service, she continued to traverse the education profession, earned her Master of Education degree with a focus on Curriculum, Instruction, and Social Change.
